Description
This lot consists of a trio of vintage 50-count boxes of Western Super-X .22 W.R.F. (Winchester Rim Fire) long-range ammunition, totaling 150 rounds. These cartridges are presented in the classic yellow and dark blue cardboard packaging of the Western Cartridge Company. The first box contains a mixture of copper-cased rounds with varying headstamps including a U, a P, and the Super-X stylized logo. The second box contains nickel-plated cases with copper-plated hollow-point bullets, all featuring the Super-X headstamp. The third box contains brass-cased cartridges with copper-plated lead bullets. Visible markings on the packaging include the Western script logo in red, Super-X in bold black serif type, long range in red script, and .22 W. R. F. in black. One box is specifically labeled .22 W. R. F. (Rem. Spl.) and another includes the product code SX22WRF on the end flap. The bottom of the boxes are marked 50 RIM FIRE CARTRIDGES. These rounds were marketed as high-velocity, long-range cartridges for various rifles chambered in the Winchester Rim Fire or Remington Special calibers.
Condition report:
The cardboard boxes show significant age-related wear, including frayed edges, corner compression, and light surface staining. The ammunition condition varies between the boxes. One box contains cartridges with significant white oxidation and corrosion on both the copper-plated bullets and the brass cases. The cartridges in the other two boxes appear to be in good vintage condition with light surface tarnishing and no visible signs of structural compromise. All ammunition appears to be live and unfired.
