Description
This Winchester Model 1895 is a lever-action rifle chambered for the .30-03 Springfield cartridge, identified by the barrel marking .30 U.S. Mod. 1903. The rifle features a 24-inch round nickel steel barrel. The metal surfaces display a combination of original blued finish on the barrel, which shows thinning and wear, and a mottled gray and brown patina on the receiver with scattered surface oxidation and spotting. The furniture consists of a two-piece walnut stock set featuring a schnabel-style forend with an ebony insert and a straight-grip buttstock terminating in a crescent metal buttplate. Aiming is facilitated by a Redfield aperture receiver sight paired with a standard front blade sight. Verbatim markings on the upper tang read MODEL 1895 -WINCHESTER- TRADE MARK REG. IN U.S. PAT. OFF. while the left side of the receiver is stamped with the manufacturer address and several patent dates including MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A. and patented dates ending in AUG. 6. 07. An additional retailer inscription on the receiver specifies FROM W.F. SHEARD TACOMA, WASH. The barrel is marked NICKEL STEEL BARREL ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER and .30 U.S. MOD. 1903. The serial number 75819 followed by the letter B is located on the lower tang. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The rifle is in good overall condition. The barrel retains approximately 60 percent of its original blued finish with thinning towards the muzzle and light handling wear. The receiver has aged to a mottled gray and brown patina with visible surface oxidation and light spotting consistent with age and field use. The walnut stock and forend exhibit numerous dings, scratches, and handling marks but remain structurally sound without visible cracks. The bore was not inspected. The lever action appears to function smoothly, though the firearm has not been function-tested or test-fired.
