Description
This is a Winchester Model 97 pump-action shotgun chambered in 12 gauge, featuring a takedown frame design and a classic external hammer. The shotgun is configured with a approximately 30-inch barrel with a full choke and a single bead front sight, suitable for field use. The metal surfaces exhibit a well-worn finish that has matured into a consistent grey patina, showing various surface scratches and handling marks throughout. It is fitted with a plain walnut buttstock with a metal buttplate and a grooved wooden pump handle. Key markings include the model designation “MODEL 97”, “-WINCHESTER-“, and “TRADE MARK REG. U.S. PAT. OFF. & FGN.” on the left side of the barrel extension. The barrel specifies the manufacturer and patent information: “MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN U S A PAT NOV 25 90 DEC. 6 92 JULY 21 96 FEB 22 98 JUNE 14 98 OCT 16 1900.” The left side of the barrel is further marked “12” and “FULL,” with circled “WP” proof marks visible on the top of the barrel and receiver. Matching serial numbers “165144” are stamped on the underside of the receiver and barrel extension, with the receiver mark accompanied by a “C” stamp. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The shotgun displays significant honest wear consistent with its age and use. The original blued finish has largely thinned to a smooth grey patina with visible surface scratches, handling marks, and areas of light peppering. The walnut stock and pump handle are in solid condition with numerous dings, scratches, and impressions from use, but they remain free of major cracks or repairs. The bore was not inspected internally but appears consistent with the external condition. The pump action and external hammer appear to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm with live ammunition.
