Description
This lot consists of 44 rounds of Winchester .38 Short Rim Fire ammunition housed in an original two-piece cardboard box. These cartridges feature copper cases and lead bullets, designed for use in rifles chambered for the .38 Short rimfire cartridge. The yellow top label displays a detailed illustration of a cartridge and is marked with WINCHESTER, TRADE MARK, .38 SHORT RIM FIRE, RIFLE CARTRIDGES, and Winchester Repeating Arms Co. NEW HAVEN, CONN., U. S. A. Additional markings on the label include STETSONS PATENT OCT. 31st 1871 and the Winchester H trademark. A date code 7-21 and the number 52 appear in the corners of the top label. One side of the box includes a red W logo beneath the caliber designation, while another side features an ink notation reading BBK #3.49 and a liability statement from the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. The cartridges themselves are stamped with the H headstamp on the base of the copper cases. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The two-piece cardboard box shows significant signs of age and wear, including surface staining, edge abrasions, and some loss to the paper labels. The 44 cartridges exhibit a darkened patina on the copper cases and heavy white oxidation on the lead bullets. The ammunition is presented in its original, though weathered, packaging with fabric wadding used to secure the contents. The ammunition appears to be live, but due to its age and the presence of lead oxidation, it is sold as a collectible item and functionality is not guaranteed.
