Lot 1122:
Description
This Browning Auto-5 semi-automatic shotgun is chambered in 16 gauge for 2 9/16-inch shells and features a recoil-operated action of Belgian manufacture. The firearm is equipped with an approximately 28-inch blued steel barrel fitted with a simple bead front sight. The receiver features factory scrollwork engravings on both sides with the left side bearing the name BROWNING above a portrait of John M. Browning. The checkered walnut furniture includes a semi-pistol grip stock and a finger-grooved forend. An aftermarket brown ventilated rubber recoil pad has been fitted to the butt. Key markings include the barrel inscriptions BROWNING ARMS COMPANY ST LOUIS Mo, MADE IN BELGIUM, and SPECIAL STEEL – 16 GAUGE – SHELLS 2 9/16. The underside of the receiver forward of the loading port is stamped with the serial number 6716 below an R prefix. The firearm utilizes an internal tubular magazine and does not include any additional detachable magazines or accessories. The action appears to function correctly when manually cycled though it has not been test-fired. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The original blued finish shows significant thinning and wear throughout the barrel and receiver with visible areas of surface oxidation and light pitting consistent with age and field use. The walnut stock and forend exhibit numerous scuffs, scratches, and handling marks while the checkering shows moderate smoothing. The bore was not inspected but the external metal surfaces show honest wear. The action cycles smoothly and the trigger pull is crisp. The aftermarket recoil pad is functional but shows some age-related hardening.
