Description
This Winchester Model 55 semi-automatic, single-shot rifle is chambered for .22 Short, Long, or Long Rifle cartridges. The firearm features a unique top-loading action where the shooter manually loads a single cartridge into the receiver port, after which the action cycles to eject the spent casing and cock the striker for the next shot while automatically engaging the rear thumb safety. The rifle is fitted with a 22-inch barrel featuring a fixed front blade and an adjustable rear leaf sight. The barrel is marked – MODEL-55 -, WINCHESTER -TRADE MARK-, MADE IN U.S.A., and – 22 S. L. OR L. R. -. Both the barrel and receiver are stamped with WP proof marks in ovals. The walnut stock is finished with a checkered metal buttplate bearing the WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. logo. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The blued finish on the receiver and barrel shows significant wear, with widespread surface oxidation and light pitting throughout. The bore was not inspected but the exterior suggests moderate usage. The action appears to function smoothly, though the firearm has not been live-fired. The wood stock displays numerous handling marks, including scratches, dings, and thinning finish. The metal buttplate exhibits significant finish loss and surface rust.
