Description
This lot comprises fifty .22 Long rimfire target cartridges manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co., contained in an original two-piece cardboard box. The cartridges are constructed with copper cases and lead bullets, with the visible rims bearing the trademark H headstamp. The box features a green top label and orange end and side labels. Verbatim markings on the top label include 50 .22 LONG No 22 RIFLE CARTRIDGES, MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO., and STETSON’S PATENT OCT. 31, 1871. The side labels identify the contents as 50 .22 CALIBER LONG TARGET CARTRIDGES, while the end labels feature a prominent red W logo above the caliber designation .22 LONG. The reverse of the box displays a guarantee and manufacturer information signed Winchester Repeating Arms Co. in script, along with a code of 10-9. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The two-piece cardboard box exhibits significant age-related wear, including overall staining, edge fraying, and fading to the printed labels, though the primary text remains clearly legible. The ammunition appears in original, live condition with surface oxidation and tarnishing consistent with long-term storage. The lead bullets show a white powdery oxidation typical of vintage rimfire rounds, and the copper cases have developed a dark natural patina. The integrity of the primers and propellant has not been tested, and these items are sold as historical collectibles.
