Description
This bronze sculpture is a contemporary casting after the original 1901 work by Frederic Remington titled The Cheyenne. The piece depicts a Native American warrior leaning forward in a dramatic gallop atop a horse. The composition captures a sense of rapid movement, with all four of the horse’s hooves lifted off the ground, supported centrally by a trailing buffalo robe that functions as the sculpture’s support. The warrior is shown partially nude with a robe draped over his legs, holding a spear in his left hand and a quirt in his right. The bronze is finished with a dark brown patina and features textured detailing on the horse’s coat and the buffalo hide. The work is mounted on an oval, beveled green marble plinth. The top of the bronze base is incised with the signature Frederic Remington. An attached brass plaque on the marble base is inscribed CHEYENNE BY FREDERIC REMINGTON.
Dimensions: 22″ Long x 9″ Wide x 20″ Tall
Condition report:
The sculpture is in good condition. There is minor surface dust and light verdigris visible in the recessed areas of the buffalo robe and the horse\'s anatomy. The patina remains largely intact with minor rubbing on the raised edges. The marble base shows no significant chips or cracks.
