Gun Collectors Dream Auction #86 Collector Auction
Lot 1253:
Description
This cast brass sculpture depicts an eagle in a dynamic descending pose with its wings spread and talons extended forward as if landing. The work is composed of two separate cast metal components: the eagle figure and a coordinating base fashioned to resemble a gnarled tree branch. The sculpture is rendered in a naturalistic style with textured feathering throughout the wings and body. Faint incised marks are present on the upper surface of the branch base but are not clearly legible. No other signatures, foundry marks, or edition numbers are visible. The metal exhibits an aged brownish-gold patina. The assembly shows visible gaps at the joints where the wings meet the torso of the bird.
Condition report:
The sculpture is in good vintage condition with surface wear, minor scratches, and pitting consistent with age. There is significant green verdigris and oxidation present on the talons and across the branch base. Visible gaps and casting seams are present at the points where the wings are joined to the body. The two components are separate as designed and show oxidation at the connection points.
