Gun Collectors Dream Auction #86 Collector Auction
Lot 127:
Sold for: $30
Description
This lot features 40 rounds of vintage Remington UMC .45 Automatic Colt (also known as .45 ACP) smokeless ammunition, originally manufactured as a set of 50 central fire cartridges. These cartridges are loaded with 230-grain metal-cased bullets. The ammunition is housed in its original two-piece cardboard box, which features red and black printing on a tan background. The box top is stamped in black ink with 230 GRS BULLET and 800 Feet Muzzle Velocity. Key markings on the box include .45 AUTOMATIC COLT SMOKELESS and the manufacturer identification of Remington Arms Company Inc., UMC Bridgeport Works, Bridgeport, Conn., U.S.A. The box is explicitly marked Oilproof on the sides and end panels, and the bottom contains a manufacturer guarantee printed in both English and Spanish. The individual cartridges are brass-cased with round-nose metal-cased bullets, and the headstamps are transcribed verbatim as REM-UMC 45 ACP.
Condition report:
The cardboard box shows significant age-related wear, including surface staining, edge fraying, and a crumpled corner on the right side. The two-piece structure remains functional despite some structural softening. The 40 cartridges appear to be live and exhibit varying degrees of tarnish and oxidation on the brass cases and metal-cased bullets, which is consistent with the age and storage of the lot.
