Description
This Winchester Model 1890 is a pump-action rifle chambered in .22 Short, featuring a 24-inch octagonal barrel and a full-length tubular magazine. The rifle is configured with a plain walnut buttstock and a grooved wooden forend, terminating in a crescent metal buttplate. Sighting is provided by a fixed front blade and an adjustable rear notch sight. The metal surfaces display an overall brown and gray patina with visible thinning of the original finish and light surface oxidation. Verbatim markings on the top of the barrel include MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. PAT. JUNE 26. 88. DEC. 6. 92. NOV. 27. 06. MAY 30. 1911. -MOD. 1890-, while the left side is stamped 22 SHORT. The upper tang bears the inscription REG. IN U.S. PAT. OFF. -WINCHESTER- TRADE MARK. A notable characteristic of this specimen is its mismatched serial numbers, with the lower tang stamped 430083 and the underside of the receiver frame stamped 257053. The wood furniture shows heavy wear, including a distinct small hole on the left side of the buttstock. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The firearm is in fair condition, exhibiting an honest brown and gray patina across all metal components with areas of thinning finish and light surface oxidation. The bore shows some darkening but retains visible rifling. The action appears to function correctly, though it has not been function-tested with live ammunition. The walnut stock and forend show heavy handling wear, including various dings, scratches, and a small round hole on the left side of the buttstock. The crescent buttplate has oxidation and wear consistent with the rest of the metal surfaces.
