Description
This Marlin No 27 is a pump-action rifle chambered for the .25-20 Marlin cartridge, designed for small game and varmint hunting with a 24-inch octagonal barrel and a tubular magazine. The firearm features a solid-top, side-ejecting receiver and a smooth walnut straight-grip stock paired with a ribbed wooden forend and a steel crescent-style buttplate. The sighting system consists of a height-adjustable rear notch sight and a fixed front blade. Key markings include the model designation Marlin NO 27 on the top tang and the manufacturer address Marlin Firearms Co. NEW-HAVEN. CT. U.S.A. on the top barrel flat, followed by patent dates ranging from August 12, 1890, to November 29, 1904. The side of the barrel is further engraved with the designation SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL, and the chambering is marked as 25-20 M near the receiver. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal surfaces show a dark brown patina overall with significant thinning of the original bluing, particularly along the barrel flats and receiver edges. There are visible handling marks, superficial scratches, and small patches of surface wear consistent with age. The walnut furniture exhibits heavy finish wear with numerous dings, scratches, and minor indentations throughout, though the wood remains intact without major cracks or repairs. The markings remain clear and legible. The action appears to function correctly, although we have not function-tested this firearm with live ammunition. The bore was not inspected.
