Description
This single-shot J. Stevens & Co. tip-up pistol is chambered in .22 caliber and features a blued round barrel measuring 6 inches in length. The pistol is constructed with a nickel-plated iron frame and smooth walnut bird’s head grips, which are secured by a single screw through a brass escutcheon. Key markings include the two-line inscription on the top flat of the barrel lug: J. STEVENS & CO. / CHICOPEE FALLS MASS. U.S.A. PAT. SEPT. 6. 1864. The serial number ★11189 is clearly stamped on the left side of the barrel lug. The iron frame is equipped with an external hammer and a spur trigger. Sights consist of a fixed blade front sight and a notch rear sight located on the barrel lug. The action operates via a tip-up mechanism released by a button on the left side of the frame. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The barrel retains a portion of its original blued finish, now thinning to a grayish patina with scattered areas of light surface oxidation and minor pitting. The nickel-plated frame remains largely intact, showing light scratches and general wear consistent with age, particularly on the high points. The smooth walnut grips are in good condition with minor handling marks and small dings but are free of cracks. The bore is dark with visible rifling and some internal pitting. The action appears to function correctly, and the barrel locks securely to the frame. We have not function-tested this firearm.
