Lot 136:
A Lot of 27 Winchester .348 Winchester Ammunition Cartridges and Casings
Sold for: $65
Description
This lot consists of a group of 27 items, including 5 live rounds and 22 empty brass casing, housed in two vintage Winchester boxes. These components are chambered in the .348 Winchester caliber, a round historically paired with the Winchester Model 71 lever-action rifle. The packaging includes one yellow Winchester Super-Speed Silvertip box, product code W3482, for 200 grain expanding projectiles, and one yellow and blue Winchester Super Speed box, product code K 3420 C, for 150 grain soft point bullets. Transcribed markings on the boxes include Winchester Repeating Arms Co., New Haven, Conn., U. S. A., Staynless Non-Mercuric, and 20 Center Fire Smokeless Cartridges. The brass items feature headstamps for Super Speed .348 Win and W-W Super 348 Win. The lot provides a representative collection of vintage sporting ammunition components and period-correct factory packaging.
Condition report:
The two cardboard boxes exhibit significant age-related wear, including heavy staining, edge fraying, and corner tears throughout. The included live cartridges and empty brass casings show varying degrees of surface oxidation, tarnish, and a deep aged patina. While the primers on the live rounds appear intact, we have not tested this ammunition for functional reliability or safety. The overall condition is consistent with vintage hunting supplies that have seen long-term storage.
