Description
This lot consists of 280 rounds of vintage rimfire ammunition manufactured by Western, contained within six original boxes. The collection includes three boxes of Western Super-Match Mark IV .22 Long Rifle Pistol Match ammunition and three boxes of Western Super-Match Mark II .22 Long Rifle ammunition. Each cartridge features a 40-grain lead bullet. Verbatim markings on the Mark IV packaging specify Western Super-Match Mark IV, SM22LR4, and 22 Long Rifle Pistol Match, with manufacturer attribution to Olin Mathieson Chemical Corporation, Winchester-Western Div., based in New Haven, Connecticut, and East Alton, Illinois. The Mark II boxes are marked Western Super-Match Mark II, 22 Long Rifle Cartridges, and 40 Grain Lead Greased Bullet, with manufacturer details identifying the Western Cartridge Company, East Alton, Ill., Division of Olin Industries, Inc. Visual inspection of the cartridges reveals two distinct headstamps: a diamond containing a vertical bar and a stylized script character representing a W. The brass-cased cartridges are held in their original cardboard partitions.
Condition report:
The cardboard boxes show moderate age-related wear including frayed edges, corner scuffing, minor staining, and some compression of the box ends. The brass cases exhibit a natural light patina with some surface oxidation consistent with age. The 40-grain lead bullets show visible white oxidation residue, or lead bloom, across the surface. All cartridges appear live with undisturbed primers. This ammunition is offered as a collectible item and has not been function-tested.
