Gun Collectors Dream Auction #86 Collector Auction
Lot 1393:
Description
This lot consists of a group of 118 rounds of Remington Kleanbore .38 Special Police Service ammunition divided among three original two-piece green cardboard boxes. The cartridges are loaded with 158-grain lead round-nose bullets and feature both nickel-plated and brass centerfire smokeless powder cases. The exterior of the boxes displays the Remington and DuPont logos alongside text identifying the contents as Remington Kleanbore 38 Special Police Service 158 Grain Lead Bullet and 50 Center Fire Smokeless Cartridges. Verbatim cartridge headstamps are marked REM-UMC 38 SPL. The collection includes one box of nickel-plated cartridges, a second box marked 35 RDS in ink containing additional nickel-plated rounds, and a third box containing brass-cased cartridges, totaling the verified count of 118 rounds. The lead projectiles exhibit a uniform dull gray oxidation or bloom common with aged lead.
Condition report:
The three cardboard boxes exhibit moderate shelf wear including scuffing, edge fraying, and small tears to the corners and flaps. One box has a handwritten notation of 35 RDS in black ink on the side. The cartridges themselves are in good collectible condition with the nickel and brass cases showing light tarnish but no significant corrosion or pitting. The lead bullets show age-appropriate surface oxidation. Primers are seated and appear intact. The ammunition has not been function-tested and is sold as a collectible item.
