Description
This lot consists of a total of 224 rounds of vintage .22 caliber rimfire ammunition distributed among five original cardboard boxes with various mixed contents. The collection primarily includes .22 Long Rifle and .22 Short cartridges from multiple manufacturers. Visible box markings include ARMSCOR PRECISION 50 RIMFIRE CARTRIDGES with side panels specifying 22 LONG RIFLE HIGH VELOCITY 37 GRAINS HOLLOW POINT; HAWTHORNE HIGH SPEED .22 SHORT marked as Art. No. 60-903; WINCHESTER-Western SUPER-X XPEDITER 22 with the product code WWSX22X and 29 gr. LONG RIFLE H.P. specifications; a silver WINCHESTER SUPER X 22 LONG RIFLE HIGH VELOCITY box with product code X22LRH for HOLLOW POINT rounds; and a PETERS RUSTLESS .22 LONG RIFLE R.F. CARTRIDGES box marked PR22-A and No. 20985. Detailed inspection of the cartridges reveals that the contents are mixed and include rounds not original to their respective packaging. Transcribed headstamps include a stylized H within a diamond accompanied by the word SUPER on nickel-plated Winchester cartridges, a cursive Rem for Remington on lead round nose cartridges, and a capital F for Federal on brass-cased, copper-plated hollow point cartridges. The cartridges exhibit a variety of projectile types including lead round nose, copper-plated hollow point, and specialized high-velocity configurations.
Condition report:
The cardboard ammunition boxes show varying degrees of age-related shelf wear, including scuffed edges, corner blunting, surface soiling, and light staining. The Armscor and Hawthorne boxes show more pronounced crushing and edge wear compared to the Winchester and Peters boxes. The ammunition itself appears to be in good functional condition, though the lots are mixed. Cartridge cases show some light oxidation and typical tarnishing associated with vintage brass and nickel plating. Projectiles vary from bright copper plating to duller lead finishes, with some evidence of original wax lubricant remaining on the lead round nose examples. The contents of the boxes have been partially replaced or supplemented over time as evidenced by the varied headstamps and cartridge types present within single boxes.
