Description
This is a Smith & Wesson Model 36 double action revolver chambered for the .38 S&W Special cartridge. A classic example of the “Chiefs Special” built on the J-frame, this firearm is configured for personal protection with a 2 inch snub-nose barrel and a compact five-shot swing-out cylinder. The revolver features a polished blued steel finish on the frame and cylinder, complemented by a case-hardened hammer and trigger. The furniture consists of two-piece checkered wood grips featuring silver-toned Smith & Wesson medallions. Sighting is provided by a fixed serrated ramp front sight and a square notch rear sight integrated into the top strap. Key markings include the model designation MOD. 36 stamped in the yoke cut along with the assembly numbers 29661, 6, C, and K. The barrel is marked SMITH & WESSON on the left and 38 S. & W. SPL. on the right. The right side of the frame carries the four-line address MADE IN U.S.A. / MARCAS REGISTRADAS / SMITH & WESSON / SPRINGFIELD, MASS. and the serial number 566732 is prominently stamped on the bottom of the grip frame. The action appears to function correctly in both single and double action modes, though we have not function-tested this firearm. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The blued finish is in fair to good condition, exhibiting noticeable wear consistent with holster carry and use. There is significant bluing loss at the muzzle and along the leading edges of the cylinder and frame. The cylinder shows a visible turn line and some thinning of the finish on the flutes. The case-hardened colors on the hammer and trigger are still visible but have silvered in high-contact areas. The checkered wood grips show moderate dings, scratches, and finish wear, particularly around the base of the grip frame. The bore is bright with well-defined rifling. The action locks up tightly and the timing appears correct.
