Description
This lot features a group of vintage ammunition boxes containing 50 live rounds of 16 and 20 gauge shotshells and 20 empty brass casings of .32-40 caliber. The collection includes a Winchester Repeating Arms Co. two-piece box originally for 20 .32-40 caliber center fire cartridges; the box now contains 20 spent brass casings with headstamps including IMPERIAL 32-40, REM-UMC 32-40, and W-W 32-40 WIN. Verbatim markings on the Winchester labels specify the cartridges are ADAPTED TO WINCHESTER, MARLIN AND BALLARD RIFLES and were Manufactured by the WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO., NEW HAVEN, CONN., U. S. A. Also included is a red Remington Shur Shot box for 16-gauge, 65mm (2-9/16 inch) shotgun shells, marked HECHO EN MEXICO and SIN HUMO, IMPERMEABILIZADOS. This box contains 25 red plastic-hulled shotshells. The third item is a yellow and blue Western Super-X box for 20-gauge, 2-3/4 inch shells with 1 oz. of 7-1/2 shot, containing 25 red paper-hulled shotshells. Printed markings include SUPER-SEAL CRIMP, WEATHERPROOF TUBE, and NON-CORROSIVE PRIMERS.
Condition report:
The Winchester two-piece box exhibits significant age-related wear including staining, foxing, split corners, and surface loss to the printed labels. The Remington Shur Shot box remains in generally good condition with typical shelf wear and light fraying at the edges. The Western Super-X box shows moderate staining and edge wear. The .32-40 brass casings are tarnished and discolored from age and use. The 50 shotgun shells appear live and well-preserved; the paper hulls of the Western shells show minor shelf wear and the plastic Remington hulls are clean with some tarnishing on the high brass bases.
