Description
This Savage Model 99F is a classic lever-action rifle chambered in the historically significant .250-3000 Savage cartridge. It features a 22-inch round barrel with a blued finish and a distinctive internal rotary magazine with a brass round counter. The receiver is also finished in blue and has been factory drilled and tapped for scope mounts, with the mounting holes currently fitted with plug screws. A notable technical detail is the engine-turned or jeweled finish on the bolt, providing a smooth bearing surface and attractive aesthetic. The rifle is equipped with a two-piece walnut stock set featuring checkered panels on the forearm and pistol grip, complemented by a black grip cap, factory sling swivels, and a serrated steel buttplate. Sighting is provided by a ramped front blade with a bead and an adjustable rear leaf sight. Key markings include the manufacturer and model designation on the front receiver ring as SAVAGE MODEL 99 and the barrel markings HI-PRESSURE STEEL – PROOF TESTED and MODEL-99F. The left side of the barrel is stamped with the caliber .250-3000 SAVAGE and a circled SP proof mark. The manufacturer address is located on the top of the barrel as SAVAGE ARMS CORPORATION CHICOPEE FALLS, MASS. U.S.A. and the serial number 782639 is located on the underside of the receiver forward of the lever. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The rifle is in good overall condition. The blued finish on the barrel and receiver shows thinning at the muzzle and along the high edges, with some areas of light handling wear and minor scuffing. The engine-turned finish on the bolt remains bright. The walnut stock and forearm are very good with minor dings, scratches, and light finish wear consistent with field use; the checkering remains well-defined. The bore appears bright with well-defined rifling. The lever action appears to function correctly and cycles the rotary magazine, though we have not function-tested this firearm with live ammunition. There is light surface oxidation and wear present on the serrated metal buttplate.
