Lot 152:
American School, 20th Century, Landscape with Cabin and Stream Painted on a Circular Saw Blade
Sold for: $45
Description
This American folk art landscape is executed in oil on a circular metal saw blade support. The scene depicts a rustic brown wooden cabin or barn perched on a grassy bank to the left, overlooking a stream that cascades through the center of the composition from the hazy background into the foreground. The landscape is framed by tall trees with sparse foliage and set beneath a dramatic, clouded sky under a warm light. The brushwork is expressive and textured, particularly in the white-water rapids and the sun-dappled grass. A distinct circular indentation from the saw blade’s previous industrial use is visible through the paint in the center of the composition. No signature or date is discernible on the front of the work. The piece is unframed, with the serrated metal teeth of the blade serving as a decorative perimeter.
Condition report:
The painting appears to be in good condition overall, with no apparent craquelure or significant paint loss. There is minor surface dirt and age-appropriate wear to the metal support.
