Description
This lot consists of 34 rounds of mixed collector ammunition housed within a multi-compartment clear plastic organizer. The collection represents a variety of calibers and manufacturers, including both handgun and rifle cartridges. Prominent among the handgun ammunition are several rimmed cartridges with lead round-nose projectiles; headstamps on these rounds are transcribed verbatim as W.R.A. CO. .38 S & W SPL, identifying them as .38 Smith & Wesson Special cartridges produced by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. Also included are thirteen military-style handgun cartridges featuring red lacquer sealant at the primers and case mouths; these rounds bear headstamps with the number 40 at the top, 52 at the bottom, and a five-pointed star on either side, consistent with mid-20th-century Soviet or Eastern Bloc production. The rifle ammunition includes a rimmed cartridge similar in profile to the 7.62x54mmR and a cartridge fitted with a silver-colored spitzer projectile tip. The group is rounded out by several semi-automatic pistol cartridges and a single spent large-caliber brass casing. The collection displays a range of vintage characteristics and manufacturing styles relevant to the ammunition collector.
Condition report:
The ammunition is in varied vintage condition. The brass casings show a significant amount of surface tarnish and natural patination consistent with age. Several rounds exhibit small patches of green verdigris and oxidation, particularly concentrated around the case mouths and rims. The lead and jacketed projectiles show some surface oxidation but remain securely seated in the cases. One empty shell casing is included in the lot. The cartridges appear to be live and in original condition, though we have not function-tested any of the components.
