Description
This lot features a group of 274 vintage shotgun shell primers from three different American manufacturers, comprising components for reloading various shotshell types. The collection includes two full boxes of 100 Remington Kleanbore No. 57 Primers for Shotgun Shells, distinguished by their red cardboard packaging and green and white logo. A cream-colored Federal No. 209 Shot Shell Primers box contains 40 primers in a vertically slotted wooden tray and is annotated with several handwritten brand names including Winchester, Western, Herter, Federal, J.C. Higgins, and Remington Peters. The final component is a red, white, and blue box of CCI No. 109 Winchester Size Shotshell Primers containing 34 primers in a black plastic tray. Markings on the Federal box include Federal Shot Shell Primers (With Battery Cup), Non-Corrosive – Non-Mercuric, and Federal Cartridge Corporation, Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Remington boxes are verbatim marked Kleanbore Primers for Shotgun Shells and No. 57, while the CCI box is labeled Winchester Size Shotshell Primers and No. 109. All packaging specifies that the primers are non-corrosive, non-mercuric, and made in the U.S.A.
Condition report:
The cardboard boxes show age-related shelf wear, staining, and minor corner fraying, with the Federal box exhibiting substantial handwritten ink marks and adhesive residue on the front panel. The primers themselves are in clean, well-preserved condition, showing bright metallic surfaces with no significant oxidation or corrosion. They are housed in their original manufacturer-specific wooden and plastic trays.
