Gun Collectors Dream Auction #86 Collector Auction
Lot 159:
Sold for: $350
Description
This lot features one single-shot lever-actuated falling block rifle identified as a Stevens Ideal No. 44 chambered for the .32 Long Rimfire cartridge. It is configured with a round barrel, a fixed blade front sight, and an adjustable buckhorn rear sight. The receiver and lever have transitioned to a dark brownish-plum patina with visible areas of surface pitting. The barrel retains a significant portion of its original blued finish, showing thinning and light scratches consistent with field use and age. It is equipped with a smooth-finished walnut straight-grip stock and a matching rounded forend. The butt is finished with a steel crescent-shaped buttplate. Key markings include the caliber designation 32. LONG R.F. on the left side of the barrel and the manufacturer stamp TRADE MARK STEVENS REG.U.S.PAT.OFF. & FGN. on the right side of the receiver. The lower tang is stamped with the model number 44 and the serial number 074250. The top of the barrel displays the mark J. STEVENS ARMS COMPANY CHICOPEE FALLS, MASS. U.S.A. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The rifle is in fair to good overall condition. The barrel retains much of its blued finish with some thinning along its length and scattered light scratches. The receiver and lever exhibit a dark plum-brown patina with visible surface pitting and handling wear. The walnut furniture shows typical dings, scratches, and minor finish loss but remains structurally sound without apparent cracks. The action appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm. The crescent buttplate shows a dark patina and light surface oxidation.
