Description
This lot consists of a lot of 50 rounds of vintage .22 Long Rifle R.F. smokeless ammunition contained within an original two-piece cardboard box. Manufactured by the Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Co. in Bridgeport, Connecticut, these cartridges feature copper-colored rimfire cases and lead bullets, with each case head bearing a stamped U headstamp. The top label of the box is prominently marked .22 LONG RIFLE R. F. and 50 SMOKELESS CARTRIDGES, accompanied by the red circle UMC logo and the Remington script trademark. The lower portion of the box front and sides are printed with the company name Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Co and the location Union Metallic Cartridge Works, Bridgeport, Conn. U.S.A. The bottom of the box features a pink 4-A GUARANTEE label which guarantees the cartridges for use in arms from Remington, Smith & Wesson, Colt, Winchester, Marlin, Savage, Stevens and all other properly constructed arms. This box remains in its original staggered grid arrangement. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The two-piece cardboard box shows significant signs of age and handling, including heavy scuffing, edge wear, and substantial loss to the black textured paper covering on the top and sides. The labels show typical yellowing and light staining but remain entirely legible. The ammunition exhibits age-related oxidation, with tarnishing present on the copper cases and white lead bloom or oxidation visible on the lead bullet tips. The cartridges appear to be live, original rounds.
