Gun Collectors Dream Auction #86 Collector Auction
Lot 173:
Sold for: $25
Description
A matching two-piece set of unfinished wooden furniture designed for a long gun, consisting of a buttstock and a forend. The buttstock features a Monte Carlo style comb with a prominent raised cheek piece on the left side and an integrated pistol grip. The corresponding forend includes a checkered grip pattern on the sides and bottom, with a central mounting hole for a secure fit to the firearm. Both components are carved from a hardwood with a visible grain, likely walnut, and are in a semi-inletted state intended for custom fitting. No manufacturer marks, model designations, or serial numbers are present on the wood surfaces. The internal inletting is present on both pieces, though no metal hardware or recoil pads are attached. This set is configured for a right-handed shooter and appears intended for a rifle or shotgun restoration or custom project.
Condition report:
The wood components are in an unfinished or stripped condition, displaying natural grain patterns and various handling marks throughout. The buttstock shows some dark staining and rougher texture within the receiver inletting, consistent with a semi-finished part. The forend checkering is well-defined and sharp, though the surrounding wood shows some light scratches and a few minor dings. No structural cracks or significant chips were observed during inspection. The inletting is roughly formed and will require final fitting and finishing by a gunsmith to ensure proper function with a specific action.
