Gun Collectors Dream Auction #86 Collector Auction
Lot 194:
Sold for: $150
Description
This collection consists of 6 antique hollow-barrel skeleton keys produced by Perry and Co. Each key is made from cast brass or bronze alloy. The circular bows of the keys feature stamped manufacturer marks; specific markings include PERRY . CO and S . PERRY . CO, with one key displaying P and RY on opposite sides of the bow. The keys have individual bit configurations, indicating they were made for separate locks such as those found on cabinets or interior doors. The set is currently organized on a dark brown, knotted leather cord. Perry and Co. was a prominent manufacturer based in the United Kingdom that exported hardware extensively to North America during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Condition report:
The keys are in good antique condition and show a significant natural patina. Five keys have a deep, dark brownish-bronze oxidation, while one key retains a brighter yellow-brass appearance. There are no structural breaks or damaged bits. The leather cord shows signs of age and surface wear but is intact and flexible.
