Description
This is a J. Stevens Arms and Tool Company Model 225 double-barrel side-by-side hammer shotgun chambered in 12 gauge, originally intended for general field use. The firearm features a break-action design equipped with dual external hammers and double triggers. The barrel assembly is topped with a smooth rib and a single brass bead front sight. The receiver and barrels are constructed of steel and are currently presenting an aged patina. The furniture includes a checkered walnut pistol-grip stock with a matching checkered splinter-style forend. A black composite buttplate embossed with the Stevens manufacturer name is secured by two screws at the rear. Key markings include the manufacturer designation J. Stevens A. and T. Co. Chicopee Falls, Mass. U.S.A. – Pats. App’l’d For – on the left side of the receiver, while the underside is stamped MODEL 225. The matching serial number 42888 is clearly transcribed on both the receiver water table and the barrel flats. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal surfaces show a dark brown patina with significant surface oxidation and areas of pitting, particularly concentrated along the barrels and the receiver frame. The bore condition has not been fully verified but is expected to show wear and fouling consistent with the exterior. The mechanical action appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm. The walnut furniture displays moderate wear from age and use, characterized by various scratches, dings, and a small chip missing at the toe of the buttstock. The composite buttplate is intact with some minor surface scuffing.
