Description
This is a custom target rifle built on a surplus military Remington action and configured for single-shot operation. The 28-inch heavy blued barrel is chambered for the wildcat .280 Dubiel cartridge (.287 caliber) and is fitted with target-style aperture sights, including a Redfield rear sight and a globe front sight with an integrated spirit level. The metalwork features a high-grade professional blued finish, a jeweled bolt, and a Dayton Traister MKII trigger. The custom-finished walnut stock includes a Monte Carlo-style comb, a distinctive carved scroll on the left cheekpiece, and a black Pachmayr recoil pad. Prominent markings include the original receiver stamps U.S. MODEL OF 1917 REMINGTON 528357 and the barrel designation DUBIEL ARMS CO. CAL. 280 DUBIEL. A notable inscription on the underside of the barrel reads C M O’NEIL ELMER KEITH 1936. The rifle is accompanied by an extensive reloading and support kit that includes a large hard-sided case, Whidden custom resizing and seating dies, a K&M precision seating press, an LE Wilson micrometer case trimmer, a Lee case conditioning kit, approximately 117 pieces of brass, and 375 bullets of varying weights. Technical documentation, including chamber diagrams from Pacific Tool and Gauge and loading data, is also included. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The rifle retains approximately 98% of its professional blued finish with only minimal wear on the bolt handle and floorplate. The jeweled bolt finish remains bright and clear. The custom walnut stock is in excellent condition, showing attractive grain and only minor superficial handling marks with no cracks or chips. The action appears to function correctly, though it has not been function-tested by the auction house. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The accompanying reloading equipment and components appear to be in very good to excellent, well-maintained condition.
