Description
This lot consists of two vintage two-piece cardboard ammunition boxes containing a total of 58 rounds of .32 S&W caliber centerfire ammunition. The first box is manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. of New Haven, Connecticut, and features a pictorial lid label depicting a top-break revolver and text stating they are expressly for Smith and Wesson New No. 32 Caliber Central Fire Revolvers. This Winchester box contains eight brass-cased cartridges with lead bullets. The interior of the Winchester lid includes a printed notice regarding reloading with Winchester Primer No. 1 1/2. The second box is a green-labeled 50-count box from The United States Cartridge Company of Lowell, Massachusetts, marked as adapted to S. and W. 32 Automatic Ejecting Revolvers. This box contains 50 cartridges in an alternating grid, with visible headstamps including U.S. 32 S. and W. and U.S.C. CO. 32 S. and W. The ammunition in both boxes features lead bullets and brass cases. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
Both boxes exhibit significant shelf wear, including staining, edge fraying, and minor paper loss consistent with age. The United States Cartridge Company box shows a torn corner on the lid and some handwritten marks on the side. The cartridges appear to be original and live, with the brass cases showing a dark, aged patina and scattered light verdigris. The lead bullets exhibit heavy white oxidation and lead bloom throughout the lot.
