Description
This lot consists of 100 rounds of .25 Automatic caliber ammunition contained within two original manufacturer boxes. The first is a Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Co. two-piece box with an orange and blue label. Verbatim markings on the label include .25 AUTOMATIC COLT SMOKELESS, 50 CENTRAL FIRE CARTRIDGES, and SOFT POINT BULLET, alongside the manufacturer attribution REMINGTON ARMS-UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE CO. AMMUNITION & FIREARMS and the facility address 81-A UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE WORKS, BRIDGEPORT, CONN., U.S.A. This box contains 50 cartridges with mixed headstamps including the U trademark and W.R.A. CO. .25 A.C.P. The second item is a Winchester Repeating Arms Co. box featuring an orange and black label marked 50 WINCHESTER 50, .25 AUTOMATIC COLT — 6.35 M/M BROWNING, and 50 GRAIN FULL PATCH BULLETS. Additional text on the box states ADAPTED TO COLT, BROWNING, CLEMENT, MAUSER, SAVAGE AND OTHER AUTOMATIC PISTOLS and MADE IN U. S. A. WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO., NEW HAVEN, CONN., U. S. A. This box contains 50 cartridges featuring W.R.A. CO. 25 AUTO headstamps and red primer sealant. The boxes are designed to hold 50 centerfire cartridges each, intended for use in early 20th-century semi-automatic pocket pistols.
Condition report:
Both cardboard boxes exhibit significant shelf wear, including scuffing, staining, edge fraying, and paper loss to the labels consistent with long-term storage and age. The Remington box shows some structural weakness at the corners of the lid. The ammunition displays a varied patina with some oxidation present on the brass cases and lead or jacketed projectile tips. Primers on the Winchester rounds appear to have their original red sealant intact. While the ammunition appears to be live, its functional reliability and safety for use cannot be guaranteed due to its age and unknown storage history.
