Description
This is a single heavy-duty antique meat cleaver produced by Foster Bros. The tool features a carbon steel blade with a full tang construction. The handle consists of two hardwood scales secured to the tang by three large brass rivets. The blade is rectangular in form with a slightly curved edge and a circular hang hole at the upper-left corner. The blade is stamped with the maker mark FOSTER BROS, with additional illegible characters on a line below. The wooden handle is stamped with the letters C and S.
Blade Length: 8.5 inches.
Condition report:
The item is in antique, used condition. The carbon steel blade exhibits a dark patina with extensive pitting and surface oxidation throughout. The edge shows signs of historical sharpening and minor nicks. Wood handle scales have darkened and show surface scuffs, including a small split at the butt of the handle. Brass rivets show a natural aged patina.
