Description
This lot features 244 rounds of .22 caliber rimfire ammunition primarily intended for small game hunting and target practice, contained within five period cardboard boxes from Peters, Herter’s, and Federal. The collection includes a 50-count box of Herter’s International .22 Long Rifle High Velocity, a 50-count box of Herter’s International .22 Short High Velocity, and a 50-count box of Peters High Velocity .22 W.R.F. Remington Special cartridges featuring Kleanbore priming. Also present is one box of Federal American Eagle .22 Long Rifle High Velocity No. AE510 and one 50-count box of Monark .22 Long Rifle non-corrosive cartridges. Verbatim markings on the packaging include HERTER’S INTERNATIONAL 22 LONG RIFLE HIGH VELOCITY, HERTER’S INTERNATIONAL 22 SHORT HIGH VELOCITY, Peters 22 W.R.F. REMINGTON SPL., American Eagle 22 LONG RIFLE HIGH VELOCITY, and MONARK 22 LONG RIFLE. The cartridges feature headstamps including a stylized U for Remington/Peters and an F for Federal. The boxes are original period cardboard packaging.
Condition report:
The cardboard ammunition boxes exhibit age-related wear including scuffing, edge fraying, surface soiling, and minor tears. The individual cartridges appear to be live, with the brass cases showing a natural aged patina and some tarnishing. Several of the lead bullets show a white oxidation or lead bloom consistent with long-term storage of older ammunition.
