Description
This lot consists of two vintage two-piece cardboard boxes containing a total of 100 rounds of .32 S. & W. centerfire ammunition manufactured by The Remington Arms Union Metallic Cartridge Company. The greenish-blue top labels are prominently marked with the red Remington UMC logo and identify the contents as 50 central fire cartridges with 88-grain bullets. Verbatim text on the labels includes The Remington Arms Union Metallic Cartridge Company Incorporated Ammunition and Firearms UMC Bridgeport Works Bridgeport, Conn., U.S.A. along with the numerical code 166. The bottom of each box features an orange guarantee label printed in both English and Spanish titled 4-8 Guarantee / Garantia. The cartridges are chambered in .32 S. & W. and feature lead projectiles and brass cases. Visual inspection of the headstamps shows a primary marking of REM-UMC 32 S&W, though at least one mixed cartridge with a W-W 32 S&W headstamp and red primer sealant is present in the open box. These vintage boxes represent a significant era of American ammunition production at the Bridgeport works. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The two-piece cardboard boxes exhibit moderate to heavy shelf wear consistent with age, including edge fraying, corner rounding, and surface scuffing. One top label shows significant paper loss and chipping across the central graphic. Staining and light adhesive residue are present on several surfaces. The ammunition shows age-related oxidation on the lead bullets and varied levels of tarnishing and verdigris on the brass casings. The primers on several rounds show light surface corrosion. The contents include at least one Winchester-Western replacement round, and the lot is sold as a collectible item for display.
