Description
This lot consists of a full box of 50 rounds of .38 Smith & Wesson caliber ammunition manufactured by The Union Metallic Cartridge Co. of Bridgeport, Connecticut. These centerfire cartridges are loaded with special smokeless powder and feature inside-lubricated lead round-nose bullets. The two-piece cardboard box is wrapped in a paper label that identifies the contents as 50 .38 CAL. S. & W. SMOKELESS CENTRAL-FIRE CARTRIDGES and includes the U.M.C. trade mark. Side labels specify that the rounds are Adapted to .38 Calibre Smith & Wesson and other Revolvers and characterize them as sure fire and accurate. The bottom label features a comprehensive guarantee listing compatibility with various manufacturers, including Smith & Wesson, Colt’s, Winchester, Marlin, Remington, Savage, and Stevens. Verbatim markings on the top label include MANUFACTURED BY THE UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE Co. and BRIDGEPORT, CONN., U.S.A. The cartridges themselves display headstamps marked U.M.C. .38 S & W. The packaging further states that these cartridges are equal in accuracy to those loaded with black powder and give greater penetration.
Condition report:
The two-piece cardboard box exhibits significant age-related wear, including overall darkening, edge scuffing, and minor label loss at the corners and along the seam. The cartridges show a natural aged patina on the brass cases, while the lead bullet surfaces display heavy white oxidation consistent with age. The ammunition appears to be in its original, live condition, though no warranty is made regarding its functional reliability or safety for use in firearms.
