Gun Collectors Dream Auction #86 Collector Auction
Lot 359:
Description
This lot consists of 150 rounds of .22 Long Rifle rimfire ammunition manufactured by Remington, divided into three boxes of 50 cartridges each. The collection features two distinct packaging styles: one solid green box bearing product number 6122 and two green and white boxes featuring a large red R logo. The cartridges are loaded with lead round-nose bullets and brass casings. Verbatim markings on the packaging include Remington, Kleanbore, Standard Velocity, 22 Long Rifle, 50 Rim Fire Cartridges, and the DuPont company logo. Close inspection of the contents reveals mixed headstamps including the letters U, Rem, and U HI-SPEED, suggesting that the boxes may have been refilled or consolidated over time. The cartridges display signs of age with oxidation present on the lead bullets and tarnishing on the brass cases. This lot represents a classic example of mid-20th-century American rimfire production suitable for collectors or enthusiasts.
Condition report:
The cardboard boxes show moderate signs of age and handling, including frayed corners, surface scuffs, and light moisture staining, though the structural integrity remains largely intact. The ammunition itself is in fair to good condition for its age; the lead round-nose bullets exhibit varying degrees of white oxidation, and the brass casings show surface tarnishing and light verdigris. The cartridges appear to be live and intact, though they have not been test-fired or examined for internal powder degradation.
