Description
This lot consists of 31 rounds of vintage .38 caliber short rimfire ammunition manufactured by The Peters Cartridge Co. housed in a two-piece cardboard box. The cartridges feature copper cases and lead round-nose bullets, intended for use in various late 19th and early 20th-century rimfire revolvers and rifles. The two-piece box shows a faded orange-brown lid and a lower section with a red label. Key markings transcribed from the side label include to any o ther makes on the market. and THE PETERS CARTRIDGE CO. while the end label is marked RIM FIRE. A white cotton spacer is present within the box to secure the partial count of 31 rounds. Individual cartridge bases feature the stamped letter P identifying them as Peters brand manufacture. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The ammunition and box are in worn, vintage condition. The 31 rounds of ammunition appear to be live; the copper cases exhibit significant tarnish and surface corrosion, while the lead bullets show heavy white oxidation throughout. The cardboard box is heavily worn with significant fading to the lid and labels. The box structure has been reinforced with clear adhesive tape on multiple sides to prevent further deterioration.
