Description
A full two-piece cardboard box containing a Lot of 50 cartridges of .38 Long Colt ammunition. The box is finished with a green, red, and black plaid pattern and features a top label identifying the contents as 50 .38 CAL. LONG COLT’S SMOKELESS CENTRAL-FIRE CARTRIDGES, manufactured by THE UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE Co of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Side labels specify that these smokeless powder cartridges were expressly adapted to the .38 Calibre Colt’s Double Action Revolvers and include a printed recommendation signed by Colt’s Patent Fire Arms Manufg. Co. The end of the box is marked .38 Long Colt’s SMOKELESS CENTRAL FIRE Inside Lubricated. The bottom of the box retains an orange guarantee label from the Union Metallic Cartridge Co. specifying the use of special Smokeless Powder and listing compatibility with Smith & Wesson, Colt’s, Winchester, Marlin, Remington, Savage, and Stevens arms. Each cartridge features a headstamp reading REM-UMC 38 LONG, which denotes production following the 1912 merger of Remington and the Union Metallic Cartridge Company. The cartridges consist of brass cases with lead bullets and central-fire primers. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The two-piece cardboard box exhibits moderate shelf wear consistent with age, including fraying at the corners, light surface staining, and a small area of paper loss on the left edge of the top label. The graphics and plaid decorative pattern remain largely intact and legible. The cartridges show a layer of grey lead oxidation on the bullets and mild tarnish on the brass cases. All primers are unspent and the cartridges appear to be in good collectible condition.
