Description
This lot consists of a vintage two-piece cardboard ammunition box containing 50 rounds of Remington-UMC .22 Short Rimfire cartridges. The cartridges are loaded with Lesmok semi-smokeless powder and feature 29 grain lead bullets. The box is wrapped in red paper labels with black print on all sides. Verbatim markings on the top label include .22 SHORT R.F. LESMOK, 50 CARTRIDGES, 29 GRS. BULLET, and THE REMINGTON ARMS UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE COMPANY INCORPORATED AMMUNITION AND FIREARMS UMC BRIDGEPORT WORKS BRIDGEPORT, CONN. U. S. A. The side panels display an illustration of a repeating rifle and state that these cartridges are specially recommended for Remington-UMC Repeating Rifles and are adapted for fine Gallery and Target Shooting, as well as sporting purposes. The end panels are marked .22 SHORT R. F. and LESMOK POWDER and feature a circular Remington UMC logo. The bottom of the box contains a guarantee in both English and Spanish listing compatible firearms from makers such as Remington-UMC, Smith & Wesson, Colt, Winchester, Marlin, Savage, and Stevens, and it also bears a purple hand-stamped code J8C.
Condition report:
The two-piece cardboard box is in fair to good condition, showing wear and character consistent with its age. The red paper labels exhibit surface abrasions, staining, and some edge wear. A prominent vertical tear is visible on the label of one end panel. The corners of the box are rounded, and there is minor scuffing on the bottom guarantee label. The cartridges remain inside and appear to be period-correct, though they have not been individually removed for inspection. This box is sold as a collectible item and the ammunition should not be fired.
