Description
A single antique meat cleaver manufactured by the R.H. Forschner Co. The heavy carbon steel blade features a traditional rectangular profile and includes a circular hanging hole near the upper tip. The blade is stamped with the maker’s mark R. H. FORSCHNER CO. The handle is constructed of two wooden scales secured to a full tang with three brass pins. An accompanying handwritten collector’s tag attributes the piece to the 1800s.

Condition report:
The cleaver is in well-used antique condition. The carbon steel blade exhibits heavy surface oxidation, pitting, and a dark patina throughout. The cutting edge shows signs of previous use and sharpening. The wooden handle is structurally sound but displays significant wear, staining, and drying consistent with age. Verdigris is visible around the brass rivets.
