Description
This lot consists of a vintage two-piece box containing 50 rounds of Winchester Repeating Arms Co. .22 Short smokeless rifle ammunition. These target cartridges feature greaseless bullets and are housed in a box characterized by its green top label and yellow side panels. Verbatim markings on the top label include 50 .22 CAL. RIFLE SMOKELESS CARTRIDGES, along with an oval stamp indicating STETSONS PATENT OCT. 31, 1871 and the numerical code 15 10 8. The side panels specify the contents as TARGET CARTRIDGES and GREASELESS BULLETS, while the box ends feature a large orange W over the text 50 .22 SHORT. SMOKELESS and a circular trademark for WINCHESTER SMOKELESS. The reverse of the box contains a guarantee signed by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. of New Haven, Conn., U.S.A., with numerical markings 107 and 11-3. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The original cardboard box shows significant condition wear, including a tear and loss to the top label, edge fraying, and surface soiling. The ammunition exhibits heavy white oxidation, commonly referred to as lead bloom, on the bullets, and the brass casings show varying degrees of green verdigris.
