Description
One cast brass or bronze patriotic eagle plaque rendered in the American Federal style. The plaque features a spread-wing eagle with its head turned to the heraldic dexter. A shield is featured on the eagle’s breast, and its talons grasp a bundle of arrows and an olive branch. The entire composition is set above a scrolled ribbon base. The piece is hollow-cast and features two mounting holes, with one positioned in each wing. The metal exhibits a deep reddish-brown patina with small traces of the original gilt finish remaining in the recessed areas. Indistinct marks or symbols are present on the reverse side of the casting, though they are not clearly legible.
Condition report:
The plaque is in good antique condition, exhibiting a varied deep patina and significant wear to the original gilt finish. Visible green verdigris is present within the recessed areas of the casting. The reverse shows areas of white oxidation and residue. No structural damage, cracks, or repairs are noted.
