Description
This is a Winchester Model 1897 pump-action shotgun chambered in 16 gauge, configured as a standard takedown field model. The firearm features a round barrel with a fixed full choke, an exposed hammer, and a tubular magazine. The metal surfaces exhibit a professional high-gloss re-blue finish, while the furniture consists of a high-gloss finished walnut buttstock and a ribbed wooden slide handle. Key markings include the model designation on the barrel extension as MODEL 1897 -WINCHESTER- TRADE MARK and the barrel address MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A. PAT. NOV. 25. 90. DEC. 6. 92. JULY 21. 96. FEB. 22. 98. JUNE 14. 98. OCT. 16. 1900. 16 GA. The top of the barrel is also marked FULL near the receiver. The bottom of the receiver and barrel extension bear the matching serial number 416638, with a D stamped above the receiver number. Sights consist of a single brass bead at the muzzle. The buttstock is fitted with an aftermarket brown rubber Pachmayr White Line recoil pad. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The firearm is in very good condition as professionally refinished. The blued finish is deep and consistent, showing only minimal handling marks and some light thinning at the high edges of the receiver and muzzle. The bore is bright and clean. The action appears to function correctly, with a smooth pump stroke and positive lock-up, though we have not function-tested this firearm. The walnut stock and forend are in very good condition, showing a few scattered dings and light handling marks, primarily on the right side of the buttstock, under a high-gloss lacquer finish. The aftermarket recoil pad is well-fitted and the rubber remains supple.
