Description
An antique wooden shipping crate manufactured by the Remington Arms Company, Inc. at the U.M.C. Bridgeport Works in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The crate features finger-jointed corner construction. Both longitudinal sides are stenciled in black with: SMALL ARMS AMMUNITION / LOADED SHOT GUN CARTRIDGES / REMINGTON ARMS COMPANY, INC. / U.M.C. BRIDGEPORT WORKS, / BRIDGEPORT, CONN. / MADE IN U.S.A. One end panel identifies the original contents as Nitro .410 gauge cartridges (12 mm), 2 1/2 inches in length. This panel includes a red Kleanbore logo, the word EXPRESS in red, and SMOKELESS / NO. 9 CH in black, indicating number 9 chilled shot. The interior of the crate is empty.
Condition report:
The crate displays an aged and weathered patina throughout. There is evidence of surface staining, minor wood splintering at the edges and joints, and general wear consistent with historical utilitarian use. The stenciled text remains largely legible with some localized fading and minor surface loss.
