Description
This Winchester Model 1894 is a lever-action rifle chambered in .32-40, featuring a standard rifle configuration with an octagonal barrel and a full-length tubular magazine. The metal surfaces exhibit a transitioned grey and brown patina with areas of surface oxidation and wear consistent with historical field use. The rifle is equipped with an adjustable rear iron sight and a front bead sight. The furniture consists of a walnut straight-grip stock and forend showing significant wear including numerous dings, scratches, and faint carvings on the buttstock, capped by a crescent-style metal buttplate. Key markings include the model designation on the upper tang, which reads MODEL 1894 / -WINCHESTER- / TRADE MARK, and the serial number 327408 is clearly stamped on the underside of the receiver. The top flat of the barrel near the receiver is marked 32-40 along with a circled WP proof mark, which is also present on the top of the receiver. The barrel address is transcribed as MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. / NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A. PATENTED AUGUST 21. 1894. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The rifle is in good overall condition, displaying an honest, aged appearance. The metal components have largely transitioned to a mottled grey and brown patina with scattered surface oxidation present throughout, particularly on the barrel and receiver. The bore was not inspected. The lever action appears to function correctly, though the firearm has not been function-tested or live-fire tested. The wood stock and forend are solid but show significant field wear, including various indentations, scratches, and light carvings on the buttstock consistent with its age. The crescent buttplate shows surface wear and patina matching the rest of the metal surfaces.
