Description
A Sako Model 78 bolt-action sporting rifle chambered in .22 Hornet, manufactured in Finland. This firearm is equipped with a blued steel barrel approximately 22 inches in length and a matching blued receiver. The rifle features a checkered walnut stock with a Monte Carlo-style comb, a pistol grip, and a black plastic buttplate. The receiver includes integrated dovetails currently mounting a telescopic sight featuring a fine crosshair reticle. A single detachable box magazine is included, and the stock is fitted with front and rear sling swivel studs. Key markings include the model and serial number on the left side of the receiver, transcribed as M78 HORNET 710649 followed by a proof mark and a letter P. The barrel is marked SAKO .22 HORNET and MADE IN FINLAND, while the buttplate is embossed with SAKO FINLAND. The action appears to function correctly, though it has not been live-fire tested. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The blued finish on the barrel and receiver is in good condition, showing minor surface wear and light thinning at the muzzle. The bore is bright with strong, well-defined rifling and no visible pitting. The checkered walnut stock remains attractive with sharp checkering, though it exhibits scattered light surface scratches and minor indentations consistent with careful field use. The telescopic sight has clear optics and a functional adjustment system. The detachable magazine shows light finish wear from insertion and removal.
