Description
This lot consists of a box of 50 vintage center fire smokeless cartridges manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. chambered in .38 Long Colt. These cartridges are loaded with 150 grain round nose lead bullets and are housed in a classic two-piece red cardboard box. Technical specifications include center fire brass casings adapted for use in Colt double and single action revolvers as well as other compatible revolvers and rifles. Key markings transcribed from the top label include 50 Winchester .38 Long Colt Center Fire 150 Grain Lead Bullets Smokeless Cartridges and Winchester Repeating Arms Co., New Haven, Conn., U. S. A. The sides of the box are printed with .38 Long Colt Center Fire Smokeless Cartridges Winchester Make overlaid on a large yellow W logo. The bottom of the box features a warranty statement and the manufacturing code 287-7-20. Individual cartridge headstamps are verbatim marked W. R. A. CO. .38 LONG.
Condition report:
The red cardboard box is in worn condition, showing significant edge wear, scuffing, and loss of the printed red surface. The packaging has been heavily reinforced with clear adhesive tape along the seams and edges of both the lid and base. The brass cartridge cases show a natural aged patina. The 150 grain lead bullets exhibit heavy white oxidation on the exposed surfaces. The ammunition appears to be live but has not been function tested.
