Description
This Colt Model 1895 double action revolver is chambered in .38 caliber and features a 6 inch round barrel. The firearm is equipped with a swing out six shot cylinder and fixed sights, consisting of a rounded blade front and a frame notched rear. The metal surfaces have transitioned to a mottled grey brown patina with areas of surface pitting and oxidation visible on the frame and cylinder. The grips are composed of checkered black hard rubber featuring the rampant Colt logo. Verbatim markings on the top of the barrel read COLTS PT F. A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A. / PATENTED AUG. 5. 1884 NOV. 6. 88. MAR. 5. 95. while the left side is stamped COLT. D.A. 38. The butt of the grip frame is stamped with the serial number 110 over 153 and matching assembly numbers 580 are found on the crane and inside the frame recess. Some original heat blued finish is retained on the trigger and hammer. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The revolver is in fair to good condition, retaining no original blued finish and exhibiting a pervasive grey brown patina. There is scattered pitting and oxidation, most notably on the cylinder and frame. The checkered hard rubber grips are in good condition with minor handling marks and crisp detail. The bore was not inspected, but the cylinder chambers show light fouling. The action appears to function correctly with good timing and lockup, although we have not function tested this firearm.
