Gun Collectors Dream Auction #86 Collector Auction
Lot 80:
Sold for: $45
Description
A collection of western cowboy spurs featuring a variety of styles, materials, and designs. The group includes three bright metal spurs constructed of aluminum or nickel-plated steel. One of these examples displays light floral engraving along the band and shank, and features decorative brass-tone and silver-tone conchos on the swinging buttons. These plated spurs are fitted with multi-point star rowels. The collection further contains several antique iron or steel spurs characterized by heavy oxidation and traditional forging. One iron spur includes a wide leather heel guard with faint stamped decorative patterns. Another iron example retains its original leather strapping and linked metal under-boot chain. Rowel styles among the iron pieces vary, including large star and sunburst patterns. No definitive manufacturer marks, patent dates, or hallmarks are clearly visible on the metal surfaces of these items.
Condition report:
The bright metal spurs are in good vintage condition with minor surface scratches and light tarnish consistent with age. The iron and steel spurs exhibit significant overall oxidation, surface rust, and pitting. The associated leather components are in aged condition, showing characteristic stiffness, cracking, staining, and areas of fragility. The rowels on the heavily oxidized examples are stiff and do not rotate freely.
