Description

This Winchester Model 1895 lever-action rifle is chambered in .30 Gov’t ’06 (.30-06 Springfield) and features a standard round barrel with a box magazine receiver configuration. The barrel is equipped with a fixed blade front sight and a folding ladder rear sight, bearing markings that specify NICKEL STEEL BARREL ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER and .30 GOV’T ’06 along with a PW proof mark in an oval. The left side of the receiver is stamped with the manufacturer’s address and patent information reading MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A. PATENTED NOV. 5. 95. NOV. 12. 95. AUG. 17. 97. JAN. 25. 98. AUG. 23. 98. AUG. 6. 1907. An oval PW proof mark is visible on both the top of the barrel and the receiver. The upper tang is marked MODEL 95 -WINCHESTER- TRADE MARK REG U.S. PAT OFF & FGN while the lower tang bears the serial number 417489 and a B stamp. The firearm is fitted with a two-piece walnut stock and schnabel-style forend, both exhibiting crude M I carvings on the sides. The rifle is completed with a steel crescent buttplate featuring a hinged trapdoor for cleaning rod storage. The action appears to function correctly, though the firearm has not been test-fired for safety or accuracy. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.

Condition report:

The metal components exhibit a heavily worn finish that has aged into a mottled gray and brown patina, with widespread surface oxidation and pitting across the barrel, receiver, and buttplate. The walnut stock and forend remain structurally sound but display significant field wear, including numerous dings, scratches, and crude hand-carved initials. The bore was not inspected. The action cycles normally, but we have not function-tested this firearm.
